B.J. came to us ready to leave behind the limitations of Adobe Business Catalyst and take greater control over how their products were sold online. The challenge was unique, Cork & Chroma doesn’t sell physical goods, they sell experiences. Art sessions, to be specific. Our initial approach was to build the site around an event management framework, but a range of additional custom requirements led us in a more creative direction — an eCommerce solution built from the ground up to feel nothing like a typical online store.

From the outset, it was clear this needed to be more than a standard online store. The design had to capture the spirit of Cork & Chroma — free, artistic and full of personality, in a way that felt instantly relatable to their audience. Rather than simply working within their existing branding, we looked for opportunities to elevate it.
We also built in smart session management functionality, automatically making fully booked sessions inaccessible to prevent confusion and avoid overbooking, with clear calls to action and visual state changes guiding users toward available options at every step.
To carry the non-traditional store experience through to every corner of the site, we created a fully custom design and layout for each art session page, reimagining what would typically be a standard product page into something far more engaging. Every detail was considered to ensure users could find the information they needed at a glance, with a booking process that felt as effortless and enjoyable as the sessions themselves.
