Built a publishing engine fast enough to keep pace with women's sport stories that were already outrunning the old site.
Sam's vision was bigger than a blog. From the outset it was clear this project would matter, and the site had to get out of its own way: the articles and the women they featured needed to be the heroes, with the website working as the reliable, failsafe resource behind them rather than competing for attention.
We built the site around the content first. Every design decision came back to one question: does this help the stories land, or does it get in the way? The result is a platform built to carry serious editorial weight without slowing a reader down.
The stories are the reason people come to Sportette, so the site was built to stay out of their way. Clean layouts, clear typography and minimal clutter mean a feature on an athlete's career gets read the way it was written, not fought against on the page.
We built a clean, content-first WordPress theme that steps back from the design and lets features, profiles and photography carry the page, rather than competing with heavy layout elements for attention.
We built a straightforward custom WordPress backend so Sam can write, format and publish new features and opinion pieces herself, without needing a developer involved every time something new goes live.
We built the site fully responsive, so a story shared on social media reads just as well on a phone as it does on desktop.
